Sync Joomla! users with Mailrelay
We are going to use a free extension that can be found here:
The extension can be found almost at the footer of the page, called “Joomla! Extension”, download it by clicking on the download button:Joomla! sync plugin
For the purposes of this demo we are going to use Joomla! at its 1.5 version, in fact Joomla_1.5.24-Spanish-pack_completo.zip that can be downloaded from ( http://joomlaspanish.org/ ), at this moment, after these two downloads, we will have two files:Required files for the sync process
This is for our testing purposes, but you can use it on your site directly (a backup is recommended before installing or using extensions).
Once downloaded these two files, the installation process is very easy. The first step is to access our Joomla! site admin panel, there select the menu Extensions -> Install/Uninstall:Joomla! extension menu
We will access the extensions install screen, where we can select the extension to install:Joomla! extension installation process
We will search in our hard disk our downloaded extension, select it. Once we have it selected click on “Upload and install file”. If all goes fine, once the extension is installed we will see the following message “Component installation success“, and also, we will have a new menu entry under “Components“:Components menu with new Joomla! extension
This new option, Mailrelay Sync, allows us to access our new component. We will do click on this option, we will see the following screen:First screen of our Joomla! sync extension
This screen will ask us for the required data for the sync process, host, user and password. All this data would have been sent to us in the Mailrelay welcome email. This email should have been sent just after account activation.
We should fill these fields and do click on the send button. These fields won’t be saved, we will need to write them each time we want to sync our Joomla! installation with our Mailrelay account. It’s important that you keep this data in a safe place.
Once we click on the send button, we will see a screen like the following:Second sync screen
In the following screen we will see our Mailrelay groups, we can select as many groups as we want, those groups will be where our Joomla! users will be synced to. Once the groups are selected we will click on the send button.Last sync screen
Last, the summary screen, where we will see the number of users synced to our Mailrelay account.
