► For the first tests, there are some aspects that we should consider:

  1. Gmail spam filters (and we can believe that other ISPs) are intentionally aggressive. This means that when the filter is not sure the email is legitimate, the message will be added to the SPAM folder.
  2. Authentication (SPF, DKIM) is critical for Gmail to accept the message.
  3. Gmail strongly suggests or strongly advises the sender to make sure that subscribers are opt-in. That is users who have voluntarily signed up to receive the emails.
  4. Gmail recommends confirming that the newsletter has been created using correct HTML, without errors.
  5. It is necessary to keep the mailing lists clean, without errors and always deleting wrong or inactive accounts.
  6. We don’t recommend using URL shorteners.
  7. You should start warming up the domain slowly. You need to start sending to only a few users at first, to increase the number of messages progressively. This will help improve the reputation of the new domain.

These are general tips that you can take into consideration for your first tests. It is also strongly recommended that you use a similar design to the one you will use when sending email marketing campaigns to your subscribers.

It is not recommended to just send an empty email with only words like “test.”

This is a common “problem,” especially if the mailing list has been bought (a bad idea).

An email can be marked as bounced for various reasons, for example when the domain no longer exists. ► My emails are being considered spam.

This is a subject that is often complex.

If all settings are correct.

And the newsletter design is within the recommended standards.

We will be in the hands of the different ISP, Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo!, Hotmail, etc.

Each filter has different rules for defining whether the message will be delivered to the inbox or in the spam folder.

For example, Gmail uses a user action history (if you never sent newsletters using that domain, you will have no reputation, which is not necessarily something positive). The filter will consider aspects such as:

  1. Emails reported as spam.
  2. When emails that were considered spam by the server are marked as “this is not spam,” this action tells the filter that the message is relevant, which is hugely  positive.
  3. Emails the users are reading.
  4. Emails opened but deleted directly.
  5. Emails marked as important.
  6. And the emails answered.
  7. Activity in the inbox.

In these situations, if the emails are in the SPAM folder, it is possible to temporarily stop sending to subscribers who are not interacting with the campaigns, creating a list only with the best contacts.

► My emails are in the Gmail promotions folder.

Gmail detects email messages and places commercial emails in the promotions tab.

Although there is no “solution” to a problem that doesn’t exist, you could try to prevent your emails from being placed in the promotions folder.

Although there are no fixed rules, you could try to make your emails not seem so commercial. This can be done using only essential images, decreasing the number of links and using pure HTML.

In short, try to use a few lines of text and only vital links and images.

The layout isn’t that beautiful.

That is true, and it doesn’t look like a commercial email, so hopefully it won’t be added to the promotions tab by the filter.

► Include video when sending email marketing

So far, it is not possible to include a video in an email natively, because it will not be displayed on all email clients.

However, you can use services like Viwom, as explained in this article:

It is an external service that is not offered by Mailrelay, but compatible with our email marketing software.

► My email is not being displayed correctly.

Each email client is different.

Before sending email marketing, it is recommended to do several tests, with multiple e-mail clients, to verify that the message is being displayed correctly in most email software.

Otherwise, you may need to make changes to your newsletter template.

Whenever possible, it is better to use cleaner templates without much code, as it can be interpreted in different ways by different email software.

The more complex the newsletter template, the better the chances of it not being displayed correctly.

Estas newsletters são criadas sem nenhum texto e por isso bloqueadas pelos filtros antispam, o que será terrível, se você precisa enviar email marketing regularmente.

É muito melhor usar um design equilibrado, com texto, links e imagens.

    Genial supongo que es un maquetador. Aunque yo para Reyes, me gustaría tener la posibilidad de eliminar usuarios, para poder volver a realizar altas desde cero como tienen otro servicios…. Nos gustaría poder empezar a crear mensajes de correo con gifs o imágenes en movimiento para llamar más la atención. Y por qué no, poder incluir videos directamente. Será mucho pedir?…

    Felicidades por seguir creciendo e innovando. Espero que la foto que publiquéis sea de un gestor de contenido para realizar plantillas para el cuerpo de nuestros emails. Además se ve muy parecido al de mailchimp por lo que sería un gran acierto integrarlo.

    La imagen, ¿no será que ofreceréis más funciones en las plantillas, por ejemplo, añadir gif animados o vídeos?

      De todas formas, gifs animados ya puedes añadir a tus newsletters, solo tienes que subirlo como una imagen normal, y si el cliente de correo lo soporta, lo has de ver bien. Si tienes problemas con esto, contacta con soporte y revisamos el motivo. ¡Felices fiestas!

    Este post es maravilloso y llevo tiempo buscando la información tan completa como esta, aunque no uso Mailrelay soy fans de sus contenidos y trato siempre de leerlo, si existe una versión de prueba para hacer test con ustedes me ánimo, ya que lo que a mi me gusta es la automatización. Por favor pueden sugerirme un post donde hablen de cómo se mejora la reputación de envío de los correos.
